SKIN CARE TYPES

Our skin takes a beating on a regular basis; whether from the sun we love to bask in, or the air we breathe, even the water we drink, bath and shower in can strip our skin of the oils it needs in order to keep it as healthy as possible. For these reasons, and countless others, it is important to know your skin type in order to use the right products at the right time. Though most of our products are great for all skin types, we have tried to categorize in order to suit your skin type the best it can. There are five main categories for skin types:

Normal
Dry
Oily
Combination, and
Sensitive.

Below is a brief description of the different skin types listed above.

Normal

You know her. She’s the one who’s skin glows, but doesn’t shine. Her skin is always soft, she doesn’t ever seem to get a pimple or blemish of any kind. Think of it this way, she’s just Normal.

These are all attributes to a Normal Skin type. You, too, have Normal Skin if most of the following apply to you:

- you will feel comfortable and smooth after cleansing, regardless of the types of cleanser
- your skin still looks clean and fresh at midday
- breakouts are occasional to non-existent, maybe before or during your period
- you have no problems using facial toners or creams
- your skin feels comfortable after applying a rich night cream
- cheeks feel comfortable with occasional imbalances
- moist to the touch without being oily
- soft, supple and evenly pigmented

Dry

Does your skin beg for moisture after cleansing, even if you use a cream cleanser? It’s also likely to be mildly to moderately itchy, with possible flaking in extreme cold or wind.

The following are characteristics of dry skin types; does it sound like you?

- skin feels tight, almost too small for you face after cleansing
- flaky patches may appear around/after midday
- rarely experience pimples or breakouts
- skin feels comfortable after applying a rich cream
- skin may sting slightly with application of toner
- skin is easily agitated, with redness, blotchiness, or inflammation as a result

Oily

Can’t touch your face without breaking out, huh? Larger pores, shiny complexion and frequent development of blackheads are also common for this skin type.

More attributes of Oily skin types:

- skin feels good, comfortable after cleansing
- skin appears shiny by midday
- skin is blemish prone, or slightly blemished
- skin feels good after applying toner
- skin is greasy after apply rich creams
- typically larger pores, thicker epidermis (outer most layer of skin)
- typically feels shiny and congested

Combination

This MUST be you, right? This is the most common of all skin types; almost everyday is a new adventure in texture! Dry cheeks, oily nose and chin one day, minor breakouts the next, and clear again the next!

Most common characteristics of Combination skin:

- skin feels dry in some areas, oily in others, and comfortable and soft in others
- cheeks may feel comfortable with t-zone oiliness
- skin might appear shiny in areas by midday, especially the t-zone
- you might experience frequent breakouts in t-zone
- after applying toner, some areas will feel fresh while others may sting
- skin tends to be moist and supple to the touch and evenly pigmented

Sensitive

Feeling like everything new you try just stings or burns, or causes blotchiness? Sensitive skin tends to react adversely to just about everything, overly fragranced cosmetics and skin care, the environment (sun exposure pollution, etc.), and suffer rashes or itching due to overexposure to wind, sun or extreme shifts in temperature.
You could have Sensitive skin if these apply to you:

- skin feels dry and/or itchy after using most cleansers
- dry spots and/or redness may appear by midday
- you may experience breakouts, although infrequently or occasionally
- skin will likely sting and/or itch after using most toners
- skin will sometimes feel comfortable, sometimes irritated after using most creams
